Fog

Fog

It has been an interesting winter. All things normal for weather of course but, all things have appeared.
Today it is foggy.
I miss the sound of fog horns from my childhood.
Those days and nights when the fog was so thick you couldn't see across the street.
That haunting sound from Lake Michigan that warned you to wear something to keep you dry.

O Winter! ruler of the inverted year, . . . I crown thee king of intimate delights, Fireside enjoyments, home-born happiness, And all the comforts that the lowly roof Of undisturb'd Retirement, and the hours Of long uninterrupted evening, know.

William Cowper (1731 - 1800)Task (bk. IV, l. 120)

Ice Day

Ice Day

The news of the day for Utah is the freezing rain.
Many people have written and taken photos of the ice covered day.
This is my little corner of the ice world.

Best Friends

Best Friends
Sometimes you miss those animals
that you called best friend

Kelly was a wonderful addition to our household.
She joined all the other animals and took
her place with ease and grace.
Well, she did jump the fence in the very first week.
I'm not sure who or what she was looking for
but she soon knew she was at home.

We had many fun filled years with her.
She loved winter and the snow.

Doggone

Doggone

Whoa, I didn't mean to swear on the internet.
I actually had no idea about the origin of the word until I looked it up to spell it correctly.
I guess I really should have named this "Give a Dog a Bone."

This is a piece made by my grandmother while she was in art school.
(circa 1930)
She was already a teacher when she went back to school for art.

Here is a sketch of the piece.

Snow Covered

Snow Covered

Night photos of the snow.
It is again a yard of snow.
Just hours earlier the green grass took control.
The yard is resting once again.
Look for the rabbit.

Snow Rabbits

Snow Rabbits
or
Rabbits in the Snow

The temperature rose above freezing today.
Just right to play in the snow.
What better thing to do than give Boo a companion.

She really didn't care much for her counterpart.

Just a few shots of my greenhouse crops.
I love to spend time with the plants just as the sun is touching them in the morning.

Unknown

Unknown

I have an object that I love.
I found it along an abandoned Montana railroad grade.
The track has been gone for years and years.
I ask folks all the time what they think it is.
I've been told:
That's a clothes hook.
That's a gadget to open stoves.
That's part of an old oil lamp hanger.
It's a dragon.
It's a snake.
It's still unknown.

'Redemption: For Robbing the Dead' screens in Bakersfield

Here's a movie that both Paul Boruff and I had small parts in.
It has had some great screenings around the USA and this is an interview from the Bakersfield showing.

Salt

Salt

An acquaintance of my grandfather sent this card to him in July 1927.
She was headed "West" and thought he'd enjoy this post card with salt.

Grandpa Stivers was a principal of a school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Miss Liedtke, who sent the letter, might very well have been a teacher in the school.

I wonder if salt cards are still sent from Salt Lake City?

Polish Dolls

Polish Dolls

My husband, Paul Boruff, is always looking for gifts for me.
On his return from Poland  several years ago
he brought me two Polish nesting dolls.

I love the sameness and the difference in them.
I love the used of color.
