Old House in Milwaukee

Old House in Milwaukee

Sometimes you just have to take a photo of a house that calls to you.
Yes I do that often.
Here's one from years ago.
I know it's long ago because the photo is a photo not a digital.

It tells me once upon a time the family that built the house loved their work and neighbors.
They liked to entertain and discuss the essence of life.

Beauty for the Day

Beauty for the Day

We went to the Utah Symphony the other night
and were reminded of this brilliant sculpture.

You can't help but love the color of this Chuihuly
sculpture "The Olympic Tower"
in the lobby of Abravanel Hall in Salt Lake City.

It was originally part of the display from the
2002 Winter Games.

In 2002 it stood with the Sun and the Earth.

Jordan Park Pool or Skate Park?

Jordan Park Pool or Skate Park?
Some loved the pool "back in the day" but
times have shifted to bikes and boards

Salt Lake Westsiders fought hard to establish a pool at Jordan Park.
It was a place of fun and coolness in the hot summer sun.

As the facility fell into disrepair it sat vacant for many years
until it was rejuvenated into a fine skate park.

The Exonerated

The Exonerated

People Productions begins its 2015-16 season with The Exonerated, by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen, as a fundraiser for the Rocky Mountain Innocence Center.

The Exonerated is a docudrama about five men and a woman who spent from two to 22 years on Death Row for crimes of which they were eventually proved innocent.

Performances will be held on the University of Utah campus at the new S.J. Quinney Law School October 16 and 18, and at the Social Work Auditorium October 23, 24, and 25. On Saturday night, October 17, a performance of The Exonerated will be held in the Black Box Theatre on the Salt Lake Community College South Campus (1700 South, State Street) as a “Free Night of Theatre” (sponsored by Now Playing Utah).

No Fragrance in the Picture

No Fragrance in the Picture

The fragrance from these purple sage bushes is incredible.
Too bad one can't smell a photo.
(Leucophyllum frutescens)

They say rain is in the forecast when they bloom.
Who really knows.
All I know is bees and butterflies abound when the purple shows its face.

Hill's Manual of Social and Business Forms

Hill's Manual of Social and Business Forms

Hill's Manual of Social and Business Forms was given to me by my aunt Isabella.
She understood I loved books and history and this was both

Years later, while researching the life of Mattie Shipley Culver
I knew it was more than coincidence that I should have this old book.
I also acquired Mattie's autograph book,
a home source that led me to her life,
it showed an autograph that mirrored one of Hill's drawings.

I don't believe in coincidence.
Below is a page from Mattie Shipley Culver's autograph book.

This is a page from the Hill Manual.

I use the Hill Manual in presentations about Mattie Culver.
It was never in the best condition and over time the binding and pages were giving it up.

But I found Mark Andersson (Tucson) of Panther Peak Bindery.
He is an artist. He took this precious book and brought it back to life.

Here is the cover after restoration.

Purple Perfection

Purple Perfection

There is nothing so soothing to the eyes as a field of Camas.
(Camassia quamash)
I can never get enough of the sight.
