Harvesting

Harvesting

Here's my first harvest of the greenhouse season.
Well, that's not totally true, we have been eating
lettuce and spinach for quite some time.

Yes my cucumbers are ready and very tasty I might add.

Greenhouse Glory

Greenhouse Glory

It is enjoyable to begin the day by walking into the greenhouse
and being greeted by my plants.

Gardening is akin to writing stories. No experience could have taught me more about grief or flowers, about achieving survival by going, your fingers in the ground, the limit of physical exhaustion.- Eudora Welty

Gardening

Gardening
I can't say enough about how I feel when I enter the greenhouse
and am greeted by my garden.
My winter crops are thriving and I'm excited about eating their gifts.
Herbs abound and I have fresh tastes for my recipes from basil and cilantro to oregano.

Lettuce for us and and rabbit.

Although only about 3 inches I look forward to cucumbers very soon.

Cilantro.

My tomatoes are still small but blooms are forming.

The Poinsettias are starting to show their Christmas color.

Flowers and plants always brighten my mood.

Missing Paul

Missing Paul

I miss him so much. I know he's only across town.
It is, however, a hospital and sometimes it seems they don't know what they're doing.
I'm sure it's just because they don't want to tell to much.

No one really talks to each other like people anymore.
They talk to each other like corporations, which I guess is the political climate.

I want him to be home soon.

Here is a song from the hospital bed.

Boo's Bungalow

Boo's Bungalow

Each winter we build my rabbit Boo a "nest" to give her comfort.
She has a winter alfalfa bale which she eats and uses as a platform.
This is her bale for the winter.

Boo hates to be in a hutch and has run of our entire yard.
She loves her life and is happy being "free."

This is the base of a raised bed I have for potatoes.
Boo loves to be under it during a rain storm.
Last year she dug a small warren under it for the winter.

This year we are tucking part of her winter alfalfa bale around the raised bed frame.

She helps us as we build it.

Here is Boo's winter digs.

Boo cleans herself in front of her new winter home.
It's still fall weather right now but in a few weeks
she will eat her way to happiness in a winter wonderland.

Horses

Horses

I love horses. I have no idea why.
I was a city kid and learned to ride in summer camps.
Now I am honored to share time with two horses a couple times a year.
But seriously why am I drawn to them when I just see them in a field,
Or when I see a sculpture of them.
Who knows.
It doesn't matter.
