Mattie Culver was a Mill Worker

Mattie Culver was a Mill Worker

Paul Boruff sings The Song of the Spinners.
Textile mill workers began at a very young age.
The Song of the Spinners appeared in the Lowell Offering in 1841.
Child labor laws were begun because of the conditions,
hours and ages of these young mill workers.

I use this song when lecturing about Mattie Shipley Culver. Mattie and her siblings worked in the textile mills in Massachusetts and New York. Mattie eventually died of Tuberculosis and is buried in Yellowstone National Park.
